One-on-one can look different for every child
Focused Art Development
Your child has a particular skill they want to develop — drawing people, proportions, painting techniques, working with a particular medium, using reference images, or something else they're curious about.
Sessions can be tailored around their goals and adjusted to their current ability.
A Quieter Creative Space
Some children create better without the distractions of a group.
One-on-one sessions offer dedicated creative time to work at their own pace, with individual support available whenever needed.
It doesn't have to be one or the other. A session can be as structured or exploratory as your child needs it to be.
What could a session involve?
There isn't a set curriculum for one-on-one sessions. We start with what your child wants to achieve — or, if they aren't sure, we work together to find a starting point.
Sessions might focus on:
Drawing skills and techniques
Portraits and drawing people
Working from reference
Proportions and perspective
Painting
Colour and composition
Clay and 3D work
Mixed media
Developing a personal art project
Learning a new medium
Finishing a piece they've been struggling with
Exploring an idea they've had but don't know how to create
And sometimes the goal is to have uninterrupted time to make.
The session is shaped around the child, not a predetermined lesson plan.
Support that meets them where they are.
I'll start by understanding what your child wants to work on and where they're currently at.
From there, I can adjust the level of support to suit them.
That might mean demonstrating a technique, breaking a challenging skill into smaller steps, working alongside them, helping them use reference material, asking questions to guide their thinking or simply giving them the space to work while being available when they need help.
If something isn't clicking, we'll try another way.
The aim is not to overwhelm them with instruction. It's to give them enough support to keep moving forward with confidence.
You don’t have to commit to ongoing one-on-one sessions
One-on-one sessions don't have to become a long-term commitment.
Perhaps your child attends group classes but wants some dedicated time to work on a particular project.
Maybe they've become interested in drawing and would like a few focused sessions to develop their skills.
Or perhaps they're finding group sessions difficult at the moment and need some individual creative time.
You can book one session, a short series of sessions or ongoing individual support depending on what works for your child.
And if they're also attending group classes, they can move between the two as their needs and interests change.
One-on-one sessions may be a good fit if your child…
Has a specific goal
They know something they want to learn or improve.
Has a project in mind
They have an idea but need help bringing it to life.
Prefers a quieter environment
They find a group distracting or simply create better with fewer people around.
Needs more individual guidance
They benefit from having someone beside them to break things down and explain things differently.
Wants to explore something deeply
They've discovered an artistic interest they want to spend more time developing.
Wants a temporary change
They normally attend group classes but want a few focused sessions for a particular project or skill.
Part of the same creative journey
One-on-one sessions can complement group classes rather than replace them.
Your child can attend their usual group class and book individual sessions when they want additional focus, or start with individual sessions and move into a group when they're ready.
